How I Make Time for Networking - Even With a Packed Schedule
We all know how easy it is to meet someone at a networking event, exchange pleasantries, maybe even connect on LinkedIn—and then never speak again. But here’s the truth: the first meeting is just the doorway. The real magic happens when you walk through it and keep the conversation going.
I was reminded of this recently during a coffee meeting with Clayton. We had crossed paths a few times, but it wasn’t until we intentionally sat down for coffee that the connection deepened. That one conversation held far more value than all of our quick encounters before it.
With a packed schedule, finding the time isn’t easy. I’ve discovered a few strategies that really well for me:
Weekday Networking Windows
✅ 7:00 or 7:30 AM (before the workday kicks off)
✅ 11:30 AM (just ahead of the lunch rush)
Saturday Coffee Chats
✅ 8:00–10:00 AM (before kids’ practices or weekend errands begin)
When you do meet, a few small habits go a long way:
Share, but also listen—relationships are a two-way street.
Take notes—you’ll remember what mattered most.
Keep it to 45 minutes—short enough to fit in, long enough to connect.
Networking isn’t about collecting contacts—it’s about creating meaningful relationships. And sometimes, all it takes is being intentional about carving out a little time.
✨ I’m curious—what’s your favorite way to make time for networking when your calendar feels full?
